MATZA Aletsch - Mass in Motion

Residency from August 27 till September 9, 2018 at Konkordiahütte – Aletschgletscher (Switzerland)

Opening from Friday the 7th till Sunday the 9th of September

with Laurence BONVIN (CH), les Frères CHAPUISAT (CH), Pierre CAUDERAY (CH), Maëlle CORNUT (CH), Séverin GUELPA (CH), Maxime LAMARCHE (FRA), Louis MEJEAN (FRA), Sandrine PELLETIER (CH), Eric PHILIPPOZ (CH) et Valentina PINI (CH)

and the scientific collaboration of Markus STOEFFEL and Hanspeter HOLZHAUSER

MATZA Aletsch is a two-week artistic expedition on a glacier, at the front line of global warming, where resources are visibly becoming rarer. The world’s 200,000 glaciers store more than 95% of freshwater resources; they are vitally important and act, therefore, as a barometer for global warming.

For “Mass in Motion”, MATZA invites 10 artists and architects to investigate this phenomenon in depth. Living on the glacier for two weeks means observing and adapting to its rhythm. This year, a base camp will be built on the glacier to give the participants the opportunity to work and spend the night there. MATZA confronts the artists with an endangered landscape and encourages them to work in a minimalistic way, with the materials found in situ or carried up in their backpacks.

Public opening on the glacier! From Friday the 7th till Sunday the 9th of September. Mountain guides will take you to the top on Friday or Saturday, but you need to sign up first on info@matza.net. You should also book a night at the Konkordia hut on their website www.konkordiahuette.ch

A public presentation will also take place on Thursday the 13th of September at the Museum of art in Sion (Switzerland). Save the date!

That Fabric between Us @ OnArte - Locarno

with Laura DE BERNARDI (CH), Myriam VAN IMSCHOOT (BE), Gerwin LUIJENDIJK (NL), Eric PHILIPPOZ (CH), Patrícia PINHEIRO DE SOUSA (PT), Andrée JULIKÀ TAVARES (CH), Esmée VALK (NL) and Kathrin WOLKOWICZ (DE)

    July 28 till August 25, 2018 – Opening on Saturday, July 28 – 6pm

Distance, stay close. Out of arm´s length it begins to look like war. A strong definite lead on the other hand avoids getting too rough. Move well so you can think of something else or carry on a conversation. Act all the time like glass reaching out for a hand. Share flatness as the table does. Direct brute openness to form because everything that breaks up builds relations. Bake a key.

An exhibition on interrelational conditions and affections. From organisms and things, among blood bonds and adoration, between internalized thinking, projection and censorship – we are linked and connected; we position ourselves towards others and things, groups and mechanisms, acting on suggestions or abandoning ourselves to an impulse. What are those encounters / these touches to one or the many; and what does the in-between offer? What makes us move or feel for? A walk with ideals and estrangement, orientation and dissipation.
